About the firm
Haden Joinery was founded by Ronald Haden in 1976. Ronald was a bench joiner by trade, working with hand tools and traditional methods. He built the business by working carefully, and by treating customers as people, not projects. Families who came to him for a kitchen would come back years later asking for a wardrobe or a door. That reputation for honest work has stayed with the firm ever since.
In 1994, Ronald and his team moved into Unit 4 at The Old Tannery in Mill Lane, Thame. The tannery had been empty for some years. The workshop space was perfect: high ceilings, good light, and room for timber storage and machinery. The Tannery is a historic building, and working from here keeps us rooted in Thame and the local area. We still work from there today.
In 2008, Ronald's sons Michael and David took over the running of the business. Michael leads the workshop: he designs pieces, cuts joints, and oversees the machinery and the bench work. David runs the fitting side, taking measurements, visiting sites, and making sure each piece is installed properly. Between them, they have over sixty years of experience in joinery and fitting. The business has grown steadily, but the approach has not changed.
Our workshop holds a good selection of timber: English oak, sapele, ash, tulipwood, and iroko, all FSC-certified where possible. We have a spindle moulder, a hand planer, a spray booth, and all the hand tools that matter. Our benches are solid wood, worn smooth by use. We work six days a week, with Michael and David often at the bench alongside the team, solving problems and talking through designs with customers and each other.
In 2019, Ronald's grandson Tom joined as an apprentice, learning the craft from Michael and the older members of the team. Tom is training in both workshop and fitting work, so that the knowledge passes on. The future of Haden Joinery is in good hands. We expect to be here in Thame for many years to come, making joinery for families and homes in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
