Our services
Everything below is designed, made and fitted by us, from our workshop at The Old Tannery in Thame. Guide prices are a starting point only — every job is quoted individually, and the first visit and quote are free of charge.
Bespoke Kitchens
Guide price: from £14,500
We design and make kitchens to fit your space and how you cook. Working from your ideas and measurements, we draw full plans before we start. We use English oak, sapele, Accoya, and other durable hardwoods, finishing them with oil or wax to show the grain. Every shelf, drawer, and panel is made to size in our workshop.
We cut mortice and tenon joints by hand where it matters, and build drawers with hand-cut dovetails. Our spray booth finishes doors and fronts to a smooth, durable surface. We fit the kitchen ourselves, making sure cupboards are level, drawers run smoothly, and every surface is flush. Most kitchens take eight to fourteen weeks from first visit to handover.
Fitted Wardrobes & Alcove Units
Guide price: from £1,850
A fitted wardrobe makes use of every centimetre, from floor to ceiling. We build cupboards around alcoves, into corners, and across whole walls. We offer a choice of timbers and finishes: painted mdf, oak veneer, or solid hardwood. Inside, we add hanging rails, shoe racks, tie rails, drawers with soft-close slides, or open shelving as you want it.
We survey the room, draw it out, and show you what will fit. Once approved, we make it in the workshop to exact measurements, then come to hang and install shelves and fittings. The doors are hung last so they fit perfectly. We sand and finish everything on site for a seamless look.
Staircases
Guide price: from £4,800
We make staircases using mortice and tenon joints where the structure takes strain, and hand-cut dovetails and other details where needed. We work in English oak, sapele, ash, or softwood, to match the period and style of your home. We make the strings, newels, balusters, and treads all to bespoke specifications, including curved strings for new properties or restoration work.
We fit the staircase ourselves, making sure every step is solid underfoot and the handrail is smooth and secure. We hand-finish balusters and newels with an oil or wax to let the wood show. Listed building work is something we do regularly, and we can advise on conservation-grade materials and methods. A full staircase typically takes ten to fourteen weeks.
Sash & Casement Windows
Guide price: from £925 per window
We make sash windows and casement windows to order, in timber that matches your existing joinery or creates a new look. We use English oak, sapele, or pine, with mortice and tenon frames and hand-fitted sashes. We can add period details like glazing bars, shutters, or mouldings, or make simple, modern frames. All windows are draught-proofed with slim seals that keep warmth in.
For listed buildings and conservation areas, we have experience with planning consent and listed building consent work. We can restore or replace windows sympathetically, using appropriate timbers and finishes. We make and fit windows on site to ensure they work properly, opening and closing smoothly through the seasons.
Internal & External Doors
Guide price: from £680
We make doors for inside and outside the home. Internal doors can be simple, painted pine, or show-stopping sapele or oak with hand-cut panels. External doors are built from solid hardwood and weatherproofed on site. We make frames, mortice hinges, and fit your chosen furniture, handles, and locks. Each door is made to your exact measurements and style preference.
A front door is the first thing visitors see. We design and make doors in period styles for older homes, or contemporary designs for new builds. We use English oak, sapele, or iroko, with traditional or modern hardware. Once fitted, external doors are sealed and finished to weather the seasons. Internal doors are hung and finished with any hinges and handles you choose.
Freestanding Furniture
Guide price: priced per commission
We make tables, cabinets, bookcases, and furniture to order. A dining table might be English oak with a hand-finished top and mortice and tenon legs, or sapele with a simple, contemporary design. A cabinet can be any size, with drawers, shelves, or glazed doors, made to fit your space exactly. We design and make one-off pieces that become part of your home for decades.
Each piece is built from solid timber, with hand-cut joints and careful finishing. We sand everything by hand at the end to a smooth, warm feel. Timbers we work with include English oak, sapele, ash, and tulipwood. We can oil, wax, or polish the finished piece, and advise on how to care for it over time.
Timber Repairs & Restoration
Guide price: day rate £340
Old timbers often need care. We repair woodworm and rot damage, replace damaged boards and joinery, and restore sash windows and doors to working order. We can splice in new timber that matches the colour and grain of the old, or replace components wholesale. We use timber that suits the period of the building, and traditional methods where appropriate.
We survey the damage, advise what needs doing, and quote for the work. Some repairs are simple: a new bottom rail on a sash window, or a fresh coat of paint on a door frame. Others need more work: treating rot in a floor joist, or hand-cutting new muntins for a sash. We work closely with architects and surveyors on period properties and listed buildings.
Oak Framing & Garden Structures
Guide price: priced per project
English oak ages beautifully outdoors. We make pergolas, summerhouses, shelters, and garden frames from solid oak timber, with mortice and tenon frames that last for decades. These structures are hand-crafted, with visible joints and natural curves in the wood. A pergola might be a simple frame for climbing plants, or a substantial structure that can shade a seating area or walkway.
Oak weathers to a soft silver-grey. We can leave the timber natural, or treat it with a suitable oil to slow the weathering. We deliver and erect structures on site, making sure they are level and secure. Each piece is made to your design and space, and we can advise on planting or landscaping to suit.
Common questions
How do you provide a quote?
We visit your home and measure the space carefully. We then draw plans and send you a quote with a breakdown of materials and labour. Once you approve the quote, we start work. There is no charge for the first visit and quote.
How long does a project take?
Most bespoke projects take eight to fourteen weeks from approval to handover. This includes time to source timber, make each piece in the workshop, and fit it on site. Simple repairs might take a week or two. We give an estimated timeline with your quote.
Do you fit as well as make the joinery?
Yes, we do. We make the joinery in our workshop, and we come to your home to fit it. David runs the fitting side. We make sure everything is level, doors run smoothly, and the finish is perfect. This is part of the service.
Where do you source your timber from?
We buy FSC-certified hardwoods from timber merchants we have known for years. We stock English oak, sapele, ash, tulipwood, iroko, and Accoya. We select timber carefully to match colour and grain for each project. We can advise on the best timber for your needs.
Do you repair old joinery as well as make new pieces?
We do. We repair woodworm and rot damage, restore sash windows and doors, and replace damaged boards and components. We use timber that matches the period and colour of the original. We have experience with listed building work and conservation areas.
